Project Details
Creative Team
  • Artists: Rhonda Davies, Laura-Kate Draws, Ellie Hoskins
  • Producers: Suzanne Dempsey-Sawin, Owen Hutchings
  • Collaborators: Buzz Hub St Helens CDP

Over a period of six weeks, we worked with three artists to deliver a series of workshops with members of Buzz Hub St Helens CDP (Coalition of Disabled People). Each project was selected by Buzz Hub members. The selected artists were then supported through a research and development phase to shape their ideas in collaboration with the group.

Rhonda Davies

Pot to Plate was inspired by Buzz Hub’s Buzz Grub project and allotment facilities, Rhonda collaborated with Buzz Hub members to create a series of recipe cards.

The cards feature some of the group’s favourite recipes, and focus on produce grown on site, spanning the seasons of the year.

The purpose of these recipe cards is to encourage people to cook homemade food: providing inspiration for what to do with basic ingredients, and help with how to use not so familiar ingredients.

Each recipe features illustrations by Buzz Hub members, and will be shared as part of the veg boxes available to buy from the allotment.

Laura-Kate Draws

Together with artist Laura-Kate, Buzz Hub members created 3D visual representations of the things that make them happy, feel inspired and celebrate who they are as individuals. They used clay, papier-mâché, painting, drawing, and Buzz Hub’s laser cutter to create their artworks.

What Makes Me, Me is an exploration of identity, joy, and personal expression, celebrating what makes each Buzz Hub member unique.

Curated and guided by Laura-Kate, the final exhibition captured the sense of belonging, creativity, and happiness fostered within Buzz Hub’s community, transforming emotions into tangible artistic expressions.

Ellie Hoskins

Together with artist Ellie, Buzz Hub members have made a collection of bird costumes inspired by sculptures they made previously. The costumes are also inspired by members’ interests, favourite things and personalities.

Working together in small groups, members used papier-mâché, Modroc, rag weaving and painting to create their unique characters, to create three bird costumes and two sculptures, as well as imagining the stories and personalities behind their vibrant colours.

The sculptures, drawings and photos of the costumes were shared at a celebration event in March 2025.
