Learning out loud: National Careers Week and beyond!

4th Mar 2026

This National Careers Week, we’ve been learning out loud alongside young people across St Helens and Knowsley.

It’s not about ticking boxes or chasing outcomes. It’s about imagining new futures together, exploring ideas, testing what works (and what doesn’t). It’s messy, playful, and full of unexpected creativity.

WFA 2026: Are you playing out?

We’re keeping that spirit alive with our next big gathering: WFA 2026: Are you playing out?

Our WFA 2026 gathering is for anyone working with young people - artists, teachers, youth workers, cultural practitioners - to explore new ways of doing things, share ideas, swap stories, and experiment.

We hope to offer a gentle space to reflect and learn alongside supportive peers. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and your sense of wonder.

Big bold ideas from Parr

Pupils in Parr have been learning out loud too. Beautiful Things: A book of amazing ideas for Parr is full of inventive ideas for their community - from a plant museum on a vintage bus to a Parr-nival! Read more.

Boys in the Making

Over the past year, we’ve been working with 13- and 14-year-old boys at Rainford High School in St Helens on Boys in the Making, the UK pilot of a project developed in Dublin in 2019 by Fiona Whelan and Dannielle McKenna (Rialto Youth Project).

Together with artist Josh Coates, teachers, and our team, the group has been imagining, experimenting, and creating. The result? Jacob - ‘Jake’ to his mates - illustrated by Nick Daly.

Meet Jacob and the other boys.

Creative careers

Students from St Helens College and University Centre St Helens explored creative careers with internationally acclaimed British-Ghanaian artist Larry Achiampong through three inspiring sessions.

Meanwhile, Creative Class enters its final phase. Lead artist Fox Irving is faciliating workshops, 1:1 mentoring, and gallery visits, helping participants develop their practice and explore the practical side of an arts career.
