About the Artist

Hello, I’m Jenny Gaskell, I’m an artist. I make performances and participatory art. I’m interested in connection, art that happens in everyday places and creating scenarios for people to take agency.

My work involves hosting, listening, writing, gathering people together and thinking about how to hold various types of grief. It is often intimate, tender, funny, conceptual and gives reverence to everyday interactions.

I have made projects in parks, parties, b&b bedrooms, toilets, trams and snooker halls. I once spent 18 months working for a non-religious church and I am a trained funeral celebrant.

My work has been supported by Art B&B, Barbican Centre, Cambridge Junction, Camden People’s Theatre, Contact, GMCA, HOME, Islington Mill, The Lowry, Leftcoast, Lancaster Arts, LADA, People’s History Museum, MIF, a-n and ACE. I was previously shortlisted for a BBC3 commission.
