Artist Scottee recently joined us for a week-long a residency in St Helens including a Salon with local art enthusiasts.
The artist and broadcaster who will be working with Heart of Glass later in the year, talked all things St Helens at The World of Glass on Wednesday, January 21st.
Scottee met with art leaders, housing association residents, councillors, event organisers and artists across the region during his stay.
32 local people attended the free salon, which included a wider discussion on the borough that Scottee hopes can give him a deeper insight into what makes the people of St Helens tick.
He is a regular contributor for BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends, Huffington Post and i-D magazine. Scottee is currently an associate artist at Olivier award winning company Duckie and the iconic Roundhouse.
Scottee, said: “I loved every minute of my residency in St Helens! During my time there I met some exciting artists, thinkers and brilliant locals and listened to what they thought of their community. Everyone I spoke to was extremely proud of St Helens’ history but were dubious of it’s future. I want people to be proud of what St Helens is today. I believe making some epic pieces of art, performance and culture with local people could help kick start pride in the present so future generations can also be proud of St Helens’ past.”
A new face in broadcasting Scottee has already interviewed some of the UK’s biggest names including Jonathan Ross, Example, June Brown and two of the Spice Girls. He has thrown cake at Rihanna on the X Factor and spat milkshake at Nick Grimshaw live on the BBC. Scottee is currently making a documentary for Radio 4 with Testbed to be aired in 2015.
