Performances to go beyond the doorstep

Back to News

Heart of Glass is today launching a project to create unique opportunities for people in St Helens to engage with arts and culture on their own doorstep – quite literally.

In My Place will bring performance to the heart of peoples’ homes and workplaces from May.

As part of the first phase of the programme Heart of Glass is keen to talk to people from across the borough that would be interested in hosting unique events in their homes.

In My Place will see hundreds of people from across the borough have the opportunity to host unique performances in their homes for friends and family. We are delighted to commence the programme with three opportunities for specially produced performances by musicians from the world renowned Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, that will take place this summer.

Kat Dempsey, Lead Producer of Heart of Glass, said: “Over the next few months we will be looking for people to host exhibitions, opera, visual arts and more in the heart of the community.”

“Have you ever thought about turning your living room into a temporary exhibition space? Would you like a world-renowned ensemble to perform in your front room for friends and family? Or would you like to host a kitchen sink drama by the kettle? If the answer is yes, then we want to hear from you!

“Through targeted call outs and partnerships working Heart of Glass will develop a programme of cross art form happening in these unique settings allowing for intimate performances, collaborative working and memorable moments to unfold as part of the story.”

A spokesperson for the Liverpool Philharmonic, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the Heart of Glass project. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring our musicians off the stage of Liverpool Philharmonic Hall into the homes of St Helens.”

To apply residents from the borough must tell us in around 150 words why they want to host a performance and meet the hosting criteria. Successful applicants will then enter a lottery with the three home selected and announced in May.

You can enter by calling 01744 455087, e-mail info@heartofglass.org.uk with the subject: In My Place or post applications to Heart of Glass, Langtree Park Stadium, St Helens, Merseyside, WA9 3AL.
